Why Common Standards and an Integrated Approach are Critical to IoT Success

Hi there,

Who cares about connected device security? My feeling is that, as an industry, we recognize the importance of security for all embedded connected devices, but we also know that it can be so complex and a potentially crippling drain on engineering resources.

Despite these pressures though, security isn't something that can be dealt with as an afterthought, or worse still, not properly addressed at all. Regulatory bodies and governments are upping their game when it comes to standards, and the pressure is on OEMs to get it right.

Foundries.io are fully behind the critical nature of these standards for the success of IoT and Edge. We believe that a fully integrated system is the way forward to put development nightmares to bed and to ensure the best levels of security, right through every stage of development, deployment, and maintenance of all embedded connected devices.

Will you be heading to Nuremberg for Embedded World, March 14-16th? You can book a meeting in person with myself or another member of the Foundries.io team here and we’ll look forward to talking with you about security and any other aspect of embedded connected devices.

You can also get in touch with me directly via LinkedIn and follow my posts for my thoughts on where we are and where we’re going with connected embedded secure devices.

A New Dimension to Security Labeling for IoT Devices

We believe that device OEMs need to go a step further by implementing per-unit or per-node labelling. Read on for John Weil’s walk through, showing how FoundriesFactory achieves a deeper level of update tracking for our customers. We provide an easier route to compliance and beyond with an integrated platform that takes care of the basic but critical development  infrastructure and frees up man-hours to focus on value-adding development work.

Software Bill-of-Materials: Every Software Developer’s Friend in Need When a CVE Problem Hits

Security breaches are a constant threat to connected devices and for this, among other reasons, device OEMs are well aware of the need for “SBOMs”. But there is no clear and common guiding standard, plus SBOM creation and management is just notoriously burdensome. What's the answer? John Weil reveals all in his blog.

Built-In And Ready To Use: The Benefits of an Integrated Docker System for Developing Containerized Software

At Foundries.io, we believe that containers should not be an add-on feature, but tightly integrated into the whole DevSecOps workflow. And also that Docker should be integrated within your development platform, not used as a plug-in, along with a built-in fully featured Docker registry. Our Principal Software Engineer, Andy Doan, explains why.

FoundriesFactory Integration with NXP EdgeLock 2GO

EdgeLock® 2GO is an add-on service from NXP® that is integrated into FoundriesFactory as an option to simplify the securing of devices during manufacturing. The service enables the automated installation and secure storage of required keys, certificates, and credentials when the end device first connects to the internet.

Key Benefits

  • Enablement of manufacturing in an untrusted facility
  • Reducing complexity and time required to secure devices on the manufacturing line
  • Simplified management of keys and certificates for devices and fleets in the field.

EdgeLock 2GO requires that the device hardware includes an NXP SE05x hardware security element. We offer a free evaluation of the service on the i.MX 8M Plus EVK with a connected SE050 evaluation, or on the Arduino Portenta X8.

To learn more about this integration and more you can book a personalized demo experience with one of our experts.
