Blogs & Expert Updates

Technical Blogs

In this newsletter, our technical blog roundup includes guidance on Chromium, and we revisit a key blog series written by Andy Doan, our Principal Software Engineer.

Chromium Docker Compose App with Hardware Acceleration for iMX8MM

Foundries.io Technical Marketing Lead, Raul Munoz, provides guidance on installing Chromium with hardware graphics acceleration for iMX devices.

PKI Hacking for Fun and Profit
Andy's first "PKI Hacking for Fun and Profit" blog starts with the assumption: "Someone will eventually hack my device". Having this approach to embedded engineering clearly puts a heavy emphasis on the importance of security, and more specifically looks at the provisioning of devices without storing API keys.

PKI Hacking for Fun and Profit - Part II
Having outlined the approach, Andy moves onto tangible examples of implementing the theory. Walking through the steps in the blog offers a framework that you can apply to real world challenges."

PKI Hacking for Fun and Profit - Part III

The final blog in this series concludes with additional specifics that you can implement in real world builds. Andy explains how you can connect devices to an AWS API Gateway and handle requests using Lambda, resulting in a service that is scalable.

Business Blogs
John Weil, our CMO, starts a new series of business level blogs, looking at "Unique Ways to Overcome IoT Security Challenges". Part 1 looks at the importance but particularly challenging nature of Secure Boot. He also posts an advisory blog on Key Rotation.

Part 1: Raising the drawbridge on your SoC: how to implement Secure Boot the easier way
John explores the importance of Secure Boot and how to simplify its implementation in your embedded Linux devices.

Why Is Key Rotation Important to Deployed IoT Devices?
In this business level blog, John Weil asks why device makers should care about key rotation. He then walks you through how and why keys are used in embedded devices.
